Deborah’s help has been invaluable in helping me to finally find the real me who for years was lost, confused and very sad. My particular journey has been over seven months and my road I’ll be honest, has not been an easy one. However, with Deborah’s professional advice, and guidance that I liken to light in a dark place, it’s been a brilliant one. I could not have achieved or understood as much as I do now, without her help. It’s never too late to ask for help.

I'd had a hard few years and doing the bloke thing just got on with it and buried it all away. I Was diagnosed with high blood pressure, getting chest pains, panicking at just going to work and other things led me to seek professional help from a therapist.
Deborah Prossimo provided the help I needed, listened to me, understood why things had got the way that they had, that I had no reason to carry all the guilt around with me that I had been holding on to and talked me through some of the bigger issues that I'd never really talked about or worked through.
Our sessions have ended for now, but in a very short time really helped me, highly recommend.

When I came to Deborah, I was in a place where I had done all I could do by myself. The work she did with me supported me changing my life and my mind set for the better.

Jane has helped (and continues to help) in all kinds of ways.

I now not only understand myself better but I have access to some profound truths - and tools - that I simply couldn’t find alone.

Spending time with Jane is essentially spending time with myself – something I hadn’t done before. It’s a well-worn cliché but it’s an investment in me.

Our sessions have helped me challenge my own mindset and weed-out the old stories - or at least consider a few new ones. They’ve also helped me know how I feel (or at least know that I don’t know how I feel!) and for the first time, I’ve been throwing a lens not only on my emotional baggage but my emotional lineage.

The bottom line is, I feel calmer and happier. I also feel deep and meaningful shifts both in my own behaviour and in those around me. Within all of this I’ve started to understand that the real work happens as much outside as inside our sessions. It’s the path less trodden but I’m so grateful to be on that path.

Thank you Jane for your enduring patience and kindness and for the gentle nudges so I don’t try and short circuit into an easier or more familiar place 🙂 Mostly though, thank you for being a lighthouse during some of the most challenging and difficult times I’ve known.

I wholeheartedly recommend Jane and The Terrace!

Feed back for Deborah
I have a knitted scarf as old as me.
It looked in a sorry state, neglected and had lost a lot of colour. I was needing help with it. The Terrace introduced Deborah at the time when I was looking for a counsellor and I started meeting with Deborah just before Christmas.
We looked at my scarf in the first session and Deborah agreed that it was kind of out of control.
I couldn’t really find a beginning or end, it was just a heap of varying colours, with some frayed strands, some knots or holes, beautiful colours some hidden by staines. Some rows half knitted and then turned back, stitches dropped and ladders forming the whole length. It was in such a bad state that it gave me a constant head ache and sleepless nights.
Deborah reassured me right in the beginning that it was a lovely scarf, that there was absolutely nothing wrong with it or nothing to worry about, but it really did need attention, some mending, some adjusting and reshaping and most of it a lot of love.
That’s what we do when we meet we examine my scarf together.
There are a lot of tears involved in looking at old stains and washing them off to reveal its natural beauty. Deborah offers her skills to help me look and examine old knots and persistently wrong stitches and patterns and how to adjust or mend them. I needed and still need to learn that I did actually not start knitting this scarf, but that I took it on and continued with it. Deborah helps me to look at it to see where someone had deliberately started wrong patterns and how I still follow them. She helps me to change some of the patterns and refresh and add colour. We look at old and new parts and Deborah often asked me to hold it to the light and look at how beautiful it is and how much work I have put in to make it so colourful and interesting and cosy.
I wear this scarf every day, it still can get really very scratchy and uncomfortable, but then I still work on it and will do so until the end.
I appreciate and value Deborah as a person and a fellow human being with a great sense of humour and a big smile and her natural compassion and empathy. And I value her as a therapist with a wide range of techniques and methods to address and understand and tease out all the things I bring to our sessions and I value her feed back and guidance. She does not shy away from challenging my thoughts and perceptions and beliefs she always checks out that she understood me fully, she helps me to connect and understand how my past has and is shaping my present and helps me to understand “that some of my patterns are really not helpful, some don’t even exist in reality”. She helps me to learn to love my scarf.
Deborah and I agree on homework until the next session, I welcome having a clear focus. Deborah also always checks at the end of a session whether I want to meet again with her, it makes me feel free and unstuck, that every week I can decide whether the counselling session is still good for me. But she always keeps an appointment available every week which makes me feel really valued.
I feel safe in Deborah’s therapeutic hands and heart and feel that it is a therapeutic partnership with clear forms and shapes.

I would always recommend Deborah as a therapist.

I started weekly therapy sessions with Deborah Prossimo in January and I would highly recommend her. I have found Deborah to be a compassionate person who listens carefully and without judgement. She is astute and notices the small important things I say and do. She provides a safe space where all my feelings are welcome and I don’t feel I have to apologise for them. The work is challenging but I find myself looking forward to each session!
