I got in touch with pleasance theatre for the first time years ago to ask if they’re take my son on for work experience. They couldn’t have been nicer. Have gone to several shows there through the years and this theatre although small, has the friendliest staff and a great bar. Somewhere special to go at anytime! Love it there!

I didn’t just attend a show at the Pleasance, we had our wedding there. It was perfect. Guests were handled ideally, bar staff and event staff working in tandem to move people into the main room for the ceremony. Upstairs my bride had her own changing room with someone on hand to move her downstairs in time. Having a sound and light tech for your wedding is next level, and all staff seamlessly integrated any suggestion that was important to us. Highly recommend anyone wanting a different type of wedding to consider The Pleasance.

If you are a Muslim, Jewish, or a woman who has experienced trauma - THERE ARE NO FEMALE TOILETS HERE.

Sadly this venue is not inclusive of women. If you wish to use the toilets you need to go through three little rooms, until you are alone, cut off and facing men zipping up their flyers. A completely disconcerting and unsettling experience for women.

Going to the toilet means running in, panicking and checking there are no men, and then again rushing back out as quick as you can.

I’m not really sure why they would choose to turn both toilets into mixed sex, and therefore choose to exclude women of religion, women who have trauma from abuse, and women who like to have a moment of privacy and dignity.

Shame, it was a great performance but I won’t return until the venue decides to be more inclusive of women in its policies.

This evening we saw Bebe Cave in her one-woman show ā€˜The Screen Test’. Cave wrote and stars in this ā€œdark comedy about delusion, desperation and dreams.ā€
The term ā€˜tour de force’ is over-used, but for this performance is absolutely appropriate.
I couldn’t take my eyes off ā€˜Betsy Bitterly’ during her series of screen tests.
The gamut of grimaces, gurns, and grins were interspersed with winning smiles and come hither eyes.
Genuinely sexy, rather than chocolate boxy.
The dancing, tumbling, falls and stagecraft were a blur of unbridled energy.
And the rapid fire monologue with so many witticisms, puns and jokes delivered in a bewildering range of accents. Just one of many masterstrokes was husband Frankie’s gibberish delivered sotto voce Italiano-style.
Betsy eyeballed and interacted with her audience, wrangled her props, and engaged with her set design like a dervish.
We left the theatre exhausted but elated - Betsy too methinks.
I can’t wait to see Bebe Cave again.

Beautiful place. A nice intimate theatre. Nice bar in a lovely setting. Very friendly staff. The only issue I saw was most of the cubicles were out of order and all the urinals. Maybe these were new and most not open yet.
