I joined KAFS in 2008 while taking an evening class at Birkbeck. Have been on 3 Italian digs and one archaeological tour since then, all memorable, extremely well organised, informative and fun. The expertise on offer is outstanding and the newsletter is a real treat. Many working archaeologists devote their time and skills to KAFS. As an oldie with none of their accomplishments I can highly recommend KAFS to anyone like me looking to expand their interests and knowledge base.

The friends I have made there are lifelong and together we have excavated almost every period in history. Interested in archaeology? Want to know more? Then KAFS is definitely the place to go. Total beginners can learn the basics in the classroom in the morning, then gain practical experience in the afternoon whilst teamed with a professional. More experienced people can attend day school classes on everything from Roman pottery to geophysics, via drawing classes, how to complete a context sheet, aerial photography, etc. Experienced diggers can join the society for £15 pa (to cover insurance cost) and can then volunteer on all the digs which take place throughout the year; these vary from prehistoric sites to Roman villas. I can highly recommend KAFS and all of it's highly experienced staff. Classes are in Faversham, sites are all over Kent - from Maidstone to Canterbury.

I have been a member of the field school since 2002 when I did the introduction of Archeology week long course. Since then I have attended large a number of KAFS courses and digs and still continue to do so. Being part of the field school increased my love of archaeology so much that it inspired me to successfully undertake a degree in archaeology. Compared to may other field schools, some of which can be incredibly expensive, this one remains extremely good value.
