most of the staff were lovely and the education staff were so supportive even past my discharge with getting support in place for me however Dr Paramel the main psychiatrist has no empathy for the patients getting highly annoyed if I struggled to answer a question and didn’t care about me or my feelings at all. they also pride themselves with involving the young person in their care and what happens whilst they are there however with me they kept randomly changing my care plan without even telling me. For example when I was admitted it was ā€œwe aren’t focusing on your eating eat what you want when you wantā€ and was more focused on my mh but then suddenly it was ā€œoh your now on meal support and you must finish everything or have fortisip and you must eat at this time and you only have so long. they also increased my meal plan randomly without telling me which led to incidents. they kept on not following through with promises to do with my care and was always pushing me to go on leave even if I was in visible distress. They also twisted words my parents said which caused me distress when I read them in my reports
overall it’s not the worst but I still have flashbacks from when I went :’)- education are 5 stars tho

It’s quite sad to see that nothing has changed looking at the recent reviews, I was here in 2020 but was transferred to a different place. I dont want to shame the whole team because there was a few that really did care and I appreciate all of what they could do for me in the 5 months I was a patient there. Unfortunately not all the team was supportive, the is multiple things I want to say about this place but the thing I want to say the most is how awful and unprofessional dr pharmel is, I honestly thought at one point that it was just me thinking these things because I was unwell but the only reason I thought that it was me is because they made me think it was! I think I lost count on how many written complaints I did in there about it and each response i got back was that it was something to do with my diagnosis but now that I know that this ā€œprofessional doctorā€ has not only just acted this way to me but acted like this to so many others just shows it was a excuse. I really don’t know how he is still working here with how much evidence there is about this ā€œdoctorā€ I finally got the support I needed when I was transferred and got better infact the most stable I’ve been in years and years and that is mostly because of the care and support I got in cygnet and It just shows if the team really tried with me , supported me better and understood why I was the way I was I might of not even been needed to be transferred and could of gone safely back into the community. The very first moment they sent referrals out for a different unit I was basically neglected left to the side and in other words ā€œjust deal with itā€ while they waited for the referal to be accepted and then just send me off with people I don’t know in a van to a different unit it felt like they just wanted to get rid of me in that moment so yes it’s sad hearing it’s still the same and hasn’t changed.

My feelings of this place are extremely negative. My child was sent here about a month ago and things have been made worse for us. The psychiatrist Dr paramel is arrogant, patronising, rude has no empathy or compassion towards patients or their parents. He can be very damaging in the things that he says and has made my daughter feel very uncomfortable. They get sensitive information wrong in their reports which can be very upsetting for parent and child. My daughters form of self harm is burning and she was able to pour a boiling hot water kettle all over her arm whilst the ward manager was in the same room resulting in daily visits to urgent care to have it checked and dressed properly. The ward were also told to keep her pain management constant due to the severity of the burn and they didn’t. She has been taken off some of her meds which has resulted in rapid mood swings and even more risk of harm. They are discharging even though my daughter is telling them she has specific plans to end her life, It honestly feels like everything has been made a thousand times worse by this place and we are now back to square one thanks to them. Myself and my daughter feel completely let down.

Support workers and ward manager and the receptionist staff are lovely people but as for the lead consultant goes he is very arraganant, unprofessional and lacks people skills. He antagonized my son to provoke negative reactions and didn't treat him with respect one of my sons symptoms was hyper salivation and during a meeting with my son he had nothing to empty his mouth in so he did so in the bin then he was told in a disrepectful manner clean it out! Also discharged my son without any meeting or consultation with parents or his community care team, then lied to cover himself saying it was home leave. And many more things this man said and did that was completely unprofessional! Which is ashame because the support workers and nursing team do an amazing job.
