My 22 year old daughter was admitted under section in September 2024 to Maple ward and discharged on 7th January 2025. During her stay on Maple ward she received excellent care and treatment from staff who genuinely care and want the best for the patient. Communication which is key was very good and helped myself and my daughter cope during a very difficult time. The commitment shown by staff is not always appreciated or even recognised and I would like to thank every member of staff involved in my daughter’s diagnosis and continued recovery for their dedication to their role, she has her life back and I have my daughter back, none of which would have happened without her stay on Maple ward.

my sister is currently detained at this hospital and what we have witnessed and what she has expressed in regards to her ill treatment by the staff members at this hospital is nothing short of horrific and disgusting. this place is a sad excuse for an institution that is supposed to provide care and support to an individual in time of need. my sister has expressed concerns of physical, mental and sexual abuse by staff members at this hospital. she is constantly provoked, intimidated and made to feel uncomfortable. this hospital has not helped in her road to recovery but instead made it worse. she will refuse to take PPE off such face mask and rubber gloves as the hygiene standards of this hospital are appalling. a small bit of research shows an article published by the BBC in October 2024 slamming the hygiene standards of this hospital as well as many other articles stating that the hospital is deemed unsafe in many aspect of their health service. this place needs shutting down!!!!

If you want an ounce of dignity left, i suggest avoiding this “hospital” , I was here for 5 months in 2021 , I wasn’t allowed out of my room for over a week, had no change of clothes offered or even any toilet paper / sanitary supplies. I felt very unsafe , as staff reacted poorly to high risk patients. Multiple occasions patients with 1-1 , 2-1 etc were left alone for a matter of time. I witnessed a lot of malpractice but as it weren’t to me I won’t speak on this. My family were hardly ever updated on my care despite me being under 18, phone lines would always be too busy and they wouldn’t call back. didn’t feel like I had a decision in my care and felt looked down upon , Avoid

I don’t think I have ever heard such INEQUALITIES in my entire life. Both me and my mother, who is a VOLUNTARY patient on Maple Ward have been bullied and blackmailed by the staff who work on Maple Ward.

I am an 18 year old, disabled and vulnerable young person who recently just had 2 lots of major surgery on my kidneys to the point my life was at risk. My mother, a 39 year old woman who is a voluntary patient at The Priory Cheadle Royal until she can find another place to live since she was evicted from her last property. My mother is an independent, and WORKING carer for me. She claims money from the government to look after me since I am bed bound and cannot move. I need help with cleaning up myself and maintaining my personal hygiene which is something that I can only trust my mother with. My mother has been helping me out every single day without a problem from any staff members at the Priory… Until yesterday after I came back from major surgery. They suddenly changed their minds and said she could only come and spend time with me for 2 hours per day. It takes her 1 hour to get here, and 1 hour to get back. She was threatened with discharge if she spent any extra time looking after her DISABLED daughter. My mum is VOLUNTARILY in the hospital, and NOT on a section, yet the manager and the doctors convinced her that she can’t look after me anymore or else. My mother is TRAPPED on Maple Ward, and nobody is willing to listen to her. What Maple Ward are doing is ILLEGAL, and we WILL be taking legal action against the so-called ‘ward manager’ for his emotional abuse and causing distress against my mother. No wonder this place has a 1.9 star review, and all they ever reply with is “As an organisation we are committed to providing the highest quality of care, to make a real and lasting difference for everyone we support.” My mother feels TRAPPED! She does not feel supported AT ALL! Disgusting place!

I was sectioned here for 11 months, easily the worst time of my life. Staff do not care about anything, half of them don’t even seem to understand they are caring for ill people. I was threatened with IMs and restrains while in a crisis. They would humiliate, belittle and shout at you instead of trying to deescalate the situation. Once I was told i was “being silly” and that I was “behaving like a toddler”. I managed to escape 4 times in the space of a month because of broken doors/windows which were never replaced. When I was on 3:1 two of the three staff fell asleep while the other was playing games on her phone. Another time I was on 1:1 and he just left me unattended which resulted in an attempt. I was asked multiple times by staff if I was on shift because they didn’t even know who was a patient and who wasn’t. The nurses mixed up and missed medications, there was no therapy available at all. It was literally a holding pen for animals. Hell I wouldn’t even send an animal here. The wards are old buildings, unhygienic, cold because the heating is never on, dark and horrible place to be. Staff take no interest in patients, they left us to trigger each other and would watch and laugh if people started arguing or fighting. They don’t even wash the safety suits, mine had sweat stains and stank of urine. Just inhumane. If you care about your loved ones don’t send them here.

not the worst hospital i've been to but most definitely not the best. good staff most of the time, but the wards are old, dirty, small, claustrophobic, dark, and there are far too many of them. the grounds are lovely and the care wasn't the worst but it could have also been a lot better. looking back now i believe lots could have been changed to ensure i was safe aswell as other patients. lots of downfalls that need addressing.

I was on woodlands ward for 19 months. The way staff handled incidents of self harm, was extremely undignified. Unhygienic ward, they never washed the safe suits and one time I was restrained into a safe suit that had period blood in the shorts. Staff very very clearly displayed favouritism towards certain patients. Breached and invaded our privacy as the staff did spot checks on our phones, they particularly singled me out for no reason as they always checked my phone. They would check our camera roll which is completely invasive, read our diaries without our consent too. Misuse and overuse of IM injections when it was not needed and could be handled with verbal de-escalation. When staff would wake us up in the morning, it was so scary and triggering to us all who suffered with trauma/loud noises. As they shouted at the top of their lungs and banged on our doors SO loud. I could go on for days about how disgusting and vile this company.
EDIT.
Sometimes I really struggle to let go and move past my experience at the Priory. I can’t fathom how truly atrocious it was. We weren’t allowed unhealthy snacks when a particular staff was working there. She would go in the kitchen and literally bin EVERYTHING. Our parents spent money on those things. We had nothing else to look forward to, and she threw it all in the bin. That staff would also whack up the air conditioning to full blast, to make sure we didn’t sleep on the corridor (our rooms were locked 8.30am - 22.30). We were literally ice blocks, all lay on the corridor. Bodies everywhere on the hard dirty floor. If we dared bring a blanket or teddy out on the corridor, they would wait until you go to the toilet and take it and lock it in your room. I felt like I had no rights as a human. The Priory put so much emphasis on controlling our freedom to “keep us safe” and “encourage a healthy routine”. But this company can’t even keep people alive! Maybe start off by not falling asleep on 1:1? To further reiterate my point about our lack of freedom and being controlled, we were allowed a maximum of 7 outfits in our rooms. But we had to work to earn that, we started off with 1 outfit and worked our way up to earn our clothes. I could go on for days about how torturous and damaging these wards were to my mental health. How could you call this care?
