My mother is currently a patient with Marlow house for a few years now and she has overall had a terrible experience. Since she has been assigned her new (locum) psychiatrist, her mental health has since deteriorated instead of getting better. She has still not been assigned a CPN nurse even though she had a significant incident around a year and a half ago and on her recent visits to the locum psychiatrist, she has been patronised and treated in a demeaning manner. She was not allowed to speak and was told in a harsh manner to just do some courses, even though my mother has physical health issues which prevent her from leaving the house most times. He didn’t listen to my mothers concerns and didn’t show any compassion to her needs. As a junior doctor myself working in psychiatry, I can safely say this is poor quality of care and against GMC guidance in terms of how to treat patients, especially for a psychiatrist whos main job is to listen to patients and provide support alongside medical management with medications. Her mental health has massively deteriorated since that time and the psychiatrist has essentially shut the door on her for future help as she feels she can’t go to him and be provided support. She should have also been provided a CPN when she had her first incident in late 2022

If I could rate it no stars, I would. This is by far the worse 'mental health' services I have ever came across. The receptionist are no help, they are rude, un-caring, patronizing, dont listen to you, and generally couldn't care less about you. They make you feel worthless. I was told by this place to wean off my tablets back in november/december, to start new medication. We are now mid January, and they still havn't given me my medication, I keep being told 'someone will ring you back', but they never do. A CPN nurse seemed genuine a couple of weeks back towards me, like she wanted to help, it all made sense when she said my call was on loud speaker and their was someone training beside her 🙂

These people are heartless and un-sympathetic. I believe these people cause more harm than good. You get a different 'DR' each time you go, which is every 3-6 months! Do not waste your time, if you want to improve your mental health, do NOT bother. These people will try and run you further into the ground!

Absolutely without a doubt one of the most pointless services. I almost feel sorry for them as it’s obviously down to finding and lack of staff. HOWEVER, no one takes any sort of responsibility and pass the book, no apologies and no taking ownership. I just once tbey could say ‘we made a mistake we are sorry’. My mum is a service user here and without me and my dad she would probably be dead. They miss appointments and don’t ring you, cancel last minute, YOU have to chase for medication. We have been told as my mothers Dr is off sick she will have to wait, extremely helpful for someone suffering with PTSD/EUPD. My mum has been crying many days saying she just wants someone to help her. It’s sad to say that there is no choice but to use this abysmal service as the government don’t give a flying foo about mental
Health!

I've been persevering for years to get some help and literally begging for help but all this place offers is a pill and false promises. When you tell someone you are in a dangerous place they don't ring you back. When your support worker can't reach you on landlines they don't try your mobile. They give 1 apt for half hour/15 mins every 3 months with psychiatrist. Again, nothing is ever followed through. For someone that struggles with anxiety, all this place has done is make it 10 times worse with their constant let downs. Thanks for pushing me into a darker hole than ever!

The woman booking the appointment was rude and abrupt, she sent me no contact details for Marlow House, I didn't even know it was Marlow House that I'd been referred to, after some wrong numbers my son finally got through to the correct place, they were insisting that I needed to speak to the person doing my assessment before I could cancel, which took 3 days, in the meantime one of the receptionists also made a stupid comment in regards to me without knowing my background, I ended up speaking to two different people because the second hadn't realised the appointment had been cancelled, the first person was wrong in regards to CPA's, she told me they were just for people who had self harmed, been sectioned etc but I'd already spoke to Rethink who had said they are for people with complex mental health conditions, I spoke to them after my call with the woman and they said it wasn't correct and stated NICE guidelines. Also both the man and woman gave differing lists of treatment/support, all the woman offered was talking therapy which I've tried and it made me worse, medication, which I'd tried, and management which I refused because it was with Let's Talk. Neither said how I go about getting a diagnosis, they both asked what my GP had said and agreed with her.

So I'm no better off after speaking to them, I still don't have a diagnosis..

I get great support from here. My cpn is based here he's amazing he knows when I'm struggling. He sorts meds out quick. And when I need hospital he notices quick and sections me so it ain't all bad

I would love to give this places -5 stars but unfortunately I can't! I have been a patient here since October 2020 after having been discharged as a patient from the stonebridge centre due to having moved GP surgeries. I had to wait 6 months for my first appointment despite having been put on SSRIs by the Psychiatrist at the stonebridge centre. So essentially I was put on medication and was failed to be monitored by the doctor which resulted in sever suicidal thoughts back in November 2020. Despite making numerous phone calls everyday I was refused an earlier appointment. The Psychiatrist eventually agreed that I would need to start CBT before taking any further medication so has put me on a waiting list that could take a further 6-12 months. In the meantime I've been told I can contact the duty team, who in my experience do not know how to communicate with those who are suffering sever mental health problems. I have had a really bad week and decided to call the Marlow house regarding me begining to loose hope, feeling extremely angry, upset and depressed.I was called back by the member of the duty team who informed me that there was nothing they could do to help me, that my situation was not a crisis and how I need to calm down. The way I was spoken to made me feel like a peasant and subhuman. Who are you to tell me if my situation is a crisis or not? How bloody unprofessional!!!! Then to say that there is absolutely nothing they can do to help me. Then to threaten to terminate the call because of my frustration with the way she handled the call to Then say that she can actually help me? Bit contradicting!?! I wouldn't of gotten so angry if she actually helped me instead of belittling me. I never self harmed in my entire life up until today! Thank you Marlow house. This is how our beautiful and beloved NHS treats those with mental health problems? That's capitalism at its finest!!!!!!!

Nothing more frustrating than being told there are a high volume of calls and then being disconnected. Just put me in a queue position like every other service. I'm more than happy to wait my turn.
