Higham Hall is a unique venue and is one of the few residential adult education venues left in the county. I've been three times and going back to Higham each time is like stepping into a little bit of paradise. The views are stunning, the food is well cooked and tasteful and the staff welcome guests like family. The courses are fantastic and always of a very high standard. Everyone is always so welcoming and inclusive. Each morning I wake up to the sound of birdsong and feel so at peace in this beautiful place. Higham is a unique and treasured place and most guests have been coming for many years and some have been coming for decades.

A first experience of visiting here today , such beautiful surroundings await you here. Very lovely energy and unique building ❤️ looking forward to spending more time here. Also they are introducing fantastic new chemical free products transitioning to a clean, toxic free forward movement for our beautiful lake district.

Cracking old manor offering accommodation with adult courses. When we were there for a jazz course, there were quilting and carving courses happening, too. Our room was basic but clean and comfortable. There are also more modern rooms in the grounds. There is a negligible mobile signal and the WiFi signal doesn't extend much beyond the ground floor, however.
The staff were lovely, very down to earth, and the amount of food you get throughout the day is ridiculous, but it's very tasty. I definitely put on a few pounds. You get three big meals (not much choice so you need to let them know if you have particular diet requirements), and two biscuit-and-cake tea breaks. There is also a very reasonably priced bar.
The house is in an absolutely gorgeous location in the hills with gardens to wander around.

thoroughly enjoyed my long week end here learning a new hobby, set in beautiful grounds, the staff here are helpful and informative of the local area. The food is very good and plentiful, here is a small bar ,you can also have drinks with your meals if you require. no tv in your room, though there is t v lounge, I watched tv on my tablet in my room( for the news) my room was very small and rather dated, but clean and comfortable bed. I didn't spend much time in my room due to the course, I paid extra for a on- suite, a basic shower , toilet and hand basin, very small( if you were a large person I would ask for a bigger on-suite if possible) I had lovely views from my room to the lakes. There was numberous courses on at the same time ,at meal times you sit where you like in the dining room, interesting conversations with the other guests. I have booked a 5 day course next time ,there are lots of courses and I would recommend as the tutors are very good and know there stuff. ,hopefully I may get a bigger room, a lady I got friendly with had a massive modern room , I believe they are slowly redecorating the rooms? its a lottery.

The main house, gardens and views are lovely, but my room in the "cottage" (actually a 1950's? bungalow) was small, dark & basic. I understand that larger rooms there had been sub-divided to make more accommodation with ensuites. My bathroom had an electrically heated shower, which was either scalding hot (dangerous) or freezing cold (unpleasant). Impossible to adjust. The "heated" towel rail (turned on by a switch outside the room) was on a timer and even after an hour (max time) was only lukewarm. So the only way to dry my towels was using the blow-heater provided - not very eco -friendly!||WiFi & phone reception was very unreliable.||The food was excellent, but due to the continuing Covid regulations (peculiar to Higham Hall) it was either served ready- plated with no choice about quantity, or for "buffet-service" was served from behind plastic screens, guests having to make it clear exactly what & how much they wanted. Even yoghurt & berries were served in little individual plastic boxes!||All students had to sit in their "bubbles" at allocated tables, no chance to socialise with students on other courses - except when queueing for the buffet, the toilets or in the bar. Presumably the only place you might catch Covid is in the restaurant?!||All the staff I met were lovely, friendly & helpful and my course was excellent. However, I very much doubt if I'll ever return to Higham Hall.

My third visit to Higham Hall was as good as ever. The course and visits were well planned and executed. The staff and tutor were well prepared and friendly. My food preferences had been accommodated without me having to ask. There is an ongoing plan for gradual improvement of both the house and grounds and it was nice to see things progressing.||Thank you to the Manager George and all the staff.

Higham Hall was sold to a newly established Trust In 2007 to be run as an independent learning centre for adults. The property is situated in several acres towards the northern end of the Lake District. Higham reportedly hosts around 3,000 residential and day students annually for a wide variety of courses lasting from half a day to up to a week.
