Review for the supported housing at malarough lane experience of 2018 .

This hasn't being an easy decision to leave a review about Bath Mind and it's something I've had to think long and hard about. For my own personal healing and speaking my truth it's important I do .
The staff are brilliant and if it wasn't for staff willing to go over and above my experience at their supported housing in malarough lane would of being hell.
I went to the supported housing In need of the weekly support they offer to aid recovery etc.

Unfortunately because of a long term tenant who wasn't even a Bath Mind tenant was living there and had being for 25 years.

I thought the space would be peaceful and quiet but unfortunately this tenant who wasn't a bath mind tenant was having parties until 5 am everyday and lived above me .

Bath mind spoke to him repeatedly and he just ignored them and my MH got worse until I was taking overdoses every month and ending up in hospital.

I hadn't overdosed for 14 years in 14 months my cptsd epilepsy got so bad I had to use my own money to go on retreat a lot to make sure I had enough sleep because of risk to my seizure threshold which my epilepsy nurse was very concerned about. Unfortunately I did have a seizure and developed fibromyalgia and migraines symptoms whilst living there

Luckily I had lots of funding to go away which Bath Mind staff helped me obtain. I totally understand Bath Mind were in terrible situation stuck with a tenant they didn't want that was causing chaos.

I had no dignity at all after a bad overdose and going to hospital it was agreed my bed would be moved to the communal room away from the noise . I was given the key for the staff toilet next to the
communal room to use in the night but for few days I was having to go in a bucket in the night this made me feel so worthless like I had no dignity.

Again I know staff were doing their absolute best with limited funding, aging building that ultimately need a full refurbishment or to be moved to another building solely for Bath mind tenants.

Eventually the noisy tenant that wasn't meant to be there died it was unfortunate that it took 25 years to solve and was only solved when the tenant died.

Think it demonstrates an organisation at the highest level where difficult decisions are brushed under the rug and myself as a Bath Mind tenant was ultimately harmed . I did have a meeting with staff and prepared a 10 page document to read I guess I was hoping for the same response I had at another organisation where the manager was mature and adult about it and told me the steps she was going to take to resolve the issue I was patted on the head and told well done I was very shocked I felt gaslighted and couldn't understand why the adult mature response was being offered. And I was essentially being treated like a child .

I cannot speak for anyone else as other peoples stories are their own to tell not mine I can only comment on my own experience. I'm sad it could of being so different if the hard mature conversations had being explored and a way for the issues to be resolved not just ignored . As for advice I would give Bath Mind difficult issues need to be discussed in an adult mature way not brushed under the carpet like they don't exist . your clients , service users matter model to them a mature adult organisation that approaches issues in that way . Brushing issues under the carpet only ever leads to resentment and denial of real issues that need resolving.

I understand we are all flawed including myself but when there organisations helping vulnerable people and there are deep rooted issues they can't be ignored because when you ignore those issues you send a message to the service users that you are ignoring them too and they don't Matter!

Kind regards
Phoenix Hogg

Over the past 18 months Bath Mind have been instrumental in my keeping sane. From small discussion groups pre COVID to the Zoom group meetings I have met kind and thoughtful people. In addition to this my stay in Wellbeing House allows me respite to practice mindfulness and self nurturing. Without exception the staff have been kind and thoughtful. I also have a telephone buddy who is my weekly anchor. Thank you Bath Mind.
